From Red Blossom Tea Company

Dragon Pearl Jasmine Supreme is our finest Jasmine scented tea. Large buds harvested in early spring from the tea gardens of Fujian are steamed, then expertly rolled by hand. Once finished, the tea is stowed to await the blossoming of late summer Jasmine.

Scenting with fresh blossoms takes place over the course of ten evenings. Each round of scenting uses fresh Jasmine flowers.

The result is a tea that is as intensely aromatic as it is beautiful, with a persistence of flavor that lasts through five to six infusions.

Water Temperature: 190°, or when medium bubbles appear.

Brewing Instructions: Steep for 1 minute. Use 1.5 teaspoons(double for a medium sized pot). May be infused multiple times

Since finals are over, I get time to actually use my gaiwan set that has sadly been neglected.

The dry tea is shaped into little balls (ditto), very cute. It’s also very relaxing to see the tea unrolling itself during the steeping.

First steep: the brew is a pale, transparent yellow and very aromatic. The jasmine is pretty prevalent, you get it from the smell, the brew, and it leaves you with a pleasant jasmine aftertaste.
It sort of cleanses the palate after you eat stuff, too.
Not astringent, not sure about the caffeine, but I always sleep better after it.

Second steep: the brew gets slightly darker, the smell is also more intense.

Okay, I got about 10 steeps out of this, but then it’s gaiwan sized, so that might not account for much. Stopping at 10 steeps not because it can’t stand another steep or two, but because I’m starting to crave some sweet stuff..

Enjoyable.

Last night I chose chaos and drank this tea with my partner’s turmeric-ginger teabag that I plopped into my gaiwan to be tossed. Thought the combo would be fun, and instead of tossing my leaves and my partner’s teabag, I steeped them up one more time just to see how the flavors play together. The result? Not that good XD

Most of the life in the jasmine pearls had been steeped away However… I may explore this once again, but with fresh pearls, so that the flavors are still present. Sort of reminded me of when Verdant tea began making all those funky botanical blend collabs with Intelligent Nutrients. I remember trying them all, but cannot remember if I liked them hehehe. Love fucking around and finding out!

I find this a lovely anytime tea. The jasmine is very forward initially, and the tea flavor starts very light but soon mellows into a smooth sipping tea with soft tannin astringency. To me, the second steeping is the best as there is a nice balance in jasmine and tea flavors. Re-steeps well about 3 times before the jasmine fades significantly and a few slight bitter notes start to creep in, but note I use a longer than suggested steep time because I like the heft in tea flavors I get.

I’m normally not one for jasmine, but this white pearl tea is so nice. I discovered I can steep it for a short period of time in the gaiwan… like 20 – 30 seconds and the jasmine is not too strong. It tasted so fresh and natural to me and the white tea notes are delicate, sweet and peachy.

So great for a relaxing evening. Le sigh
