RLT’s Black Matcha Organic! I’ve reviewed this one before but it’s been a while. See previous notes. I think I will send some of this to Azzrian next :)

As promised, I am trying this today as a latte. I steamed a little bit of milk and used a little less water to make up for the additional liquid. The result: really nice. REALLY nice. So rich and creamy.

It’s really hard to describe this … it’s like black tea, but, not just stronger, but, thicker. Imagine black tea with the thick consistency of a smooth hot chocolate. It’s incredibly smooth and so very delicious. The black tea is robust and flavorful, slightly sweet with notes of deep cocoa. The latte just sends this over the top. I enjoy it straight without the milk, but with the milk, it becomes an amazingly comforting drink that is also quite stimulating.

AWESOME.

Oh my god, this sounds amazing! I’m drooling, and suddenly my Cranberry Pear seems less significant! Is this brand online only? I have seen a number of teas from them I’d love to try, but I don’t have a credit card for online buying at the moment.

I don’t know if they sell elsewhere, here is a link to their website though and maybe you can work something out: http://www.redleaftea.com/

Second try. First time I failed it by using too hot of water. This time I used a perfect temp and steamed milk.
It’s gonna take some getting used to. It’s not that I don’t like it, it’s just VERY different than anything I have ever had. I didn’t even like puerh at first and I enjoy this more.
So, I’m not going to rate this because I know I will like it eventually.

It’s the second black matcha I’ve tried. The first was a Darjeeling/Assam blend with a robust, almost chocolaty flavor with a wonderful texture. This reminded me of a mid-grade, CTC-cut Nilgiri on smell – bitter forefront that transitioned into a floral fragrance. The result after whisking was a thickly-frothed, even-brown liquor with a spectacular aroma. The true beauty of this was in the texture. If the drinker had no taste buds, they’d still find pleasure in the velvety/silky delivery.

I was excited to try this, because such respectable reviewers have given it such good remarks. Alas, I just don’t like this very much. I find it on the bitter side, and very astringent, when taken straight. It does make a decent latte, though. As a latte, the texture is nice and rich, and the bitterness/astringency is balanced with the milk. As a straight matcha, this is a 6. As a latte, it’s an 8. Overall, 7. I’ll keep it around, and use it in the mornings before work when I need caffeine but don’t want to start a regular pot of tea. I doubt I’d choose it over other teas when I have the time to be leisurely.
