Having an herbal this Monday morning to celebrate today’s sipdown theme, National Freedom Day / Black History Month. Herbing Legends is a Black-owned business focused mostly on herbal smoking blends, but they also sell each of their blends loose leaf. I reached out to the owner to see if these can be steeped as a tisane as well and she said yes! I bought a few to try based on the descriptions and watched a video on their Instagram showing how these should be steeped. Following her lead – a heaping teaspoon per cup, steep five minutes.

This one has a spicy aroma, like black pepper. There isn’t any black pepper in the blend though, and I’m not very familiar with all of the ingredients so I’m not sure what is giving that impression. I was sold by the description this morning with words like inspired and motivated, a great way to start your day. I can’t say I’m feeling more motivated after drinking it (I’m actually really sleepy and unmotivated), but I did really enjoy the flavor. It’s not spicy or bitter to taste as I expected from the scent, but I did add some coconut milk to balance the black pepper aroma and give it somewhat of a chai latte feel.

I had to look for three of those ingredients. I am sure it was a bit interesting tea to try and indeed interesting flavour :)
