Sipdown (282)

A is for…Assam Mokalbari

Inspired by Mastress Alita and her sipdown thread challenge to drink a tea starting with each letter of the alphabet throughout April. I pre-picked my teas by organizing my spreadsheet by alphabetical order and choosing (one of) the oldest tea(s) for that letter. This tea is from December 2019 but has a best before date from back in November 2020, so it may not be at its best, thus probably good time to be drinking it down.

It’s very astringent and coppery. Brisk is how I would describe it and brisk, for me at least, is usually a bad thing. I am glad I got to try it but I am even more glad to be saying good bye since this is not for me. Thank you Roswell Strange for the chance to try it!

Aww I love your “A is for” ha ha! I don’t drink Assam often, I have a few from Capital Tea Ltd. that I still need to open…

VariaTEA

Living with a baby has me thinking about the alphabet in this way lol

I wonder if you aren’t that used to drink black teas, or it isn’t that fine as What-cha version, but I just love Mokalbari. It never was too astringent for me. Either way, any sipdown is a good sipdown.

taking a break from not working (no my ID still isn’t set up) and entering tea in to my cupboard to have more tea. I have a few of these tea bags so figured i might as well dive in. This is a relatively smooth, slightly astringen black. But i’m ok with it because it’s different! yay! My cupboard started at 13 before VariaTEA’s samples….i’m currently sitting at 50 and still have many, many, many more to add lol let’s see where we end up!

VariaTEA

lol my hope was to pass on the cupboard explosion I had courtesy of Roswell Strange back in December. Plus, you were lacking choices :P

Sil

hey only 91 teas… looks like you were slacking a little :)

ashmanra

I would cry if I tried to enter in my samples and swaps. Seriously. You are amazingly patient.

VariaTEA

Damn…I’ll have to send you 9 more!

Sil

@ashmanra – it helps that my cupboard is small, though i guess i also did it when it was 300+ I just like knowing things are in there.

@VariaTEA – there’s some matcha downstairs i forgot i also have to enter so it’ll be pretty close to 100

I thought I was finished getting through my Floragold sachets, but I found this one last straggled in the very back of my sachet drawer earlier this week – sneaky little bugger was somehow separated from the others!

I think I was actually more impressed with this one than Kittenna was – I agree that it seemed like the mouthfeel was a little thin, but the flavour was really nice. Had some malt and sweetness, but most interestingly also had a strong freshly baked French Bread note and a hint of raisin to it. I added some milk, and it stood up very well to the addition, without losing its defined malty sweetness!

I actually think this was one of the better Floragold samples overall.

derk

Did you have any other straight teas from Floragold? Seemed like your selections were mostly tisanes.

Roswell Strange

There was one straight green, I believe, and around four other straight blacks.

Sipdown! 161/365!

Thanks for the share, Roswell Strange! I was feeling like a black tea the other day, and also like I should get in a sipdown, so I found this in my teabox from Roswell. Thankfully, it was better than the herbals of theirs that I have tried; not a bad example of a bagged assam, IMO. Malty and a bit thinner than my preference would be, but decent flavour.
