Inkling Advent Day 8. I’m so lucky to get to try all these Dessert by Deb teas – I’ve seriously gone to her website a dozen times considering making an order and never have, so this is the perfect sampler. The factor that has kept me from ordering her teas is that I prefer teas with heavy flavoring, and I got the impression that that’s not how she blends tea. From the ones Inkling has generously shared with me, it seems that impression was correct. Like the others, this one tastes mostly like black tea. I also taste a bit of green banana, but no maple or baked elements. And this flavor profile would seem to call for a more baked type of banana, not green. This was still pleasant (maybe my favorite from Deb so far), just not exactly what I’m looking for.

Kelmishka

Same here — I’ve added stuff to my cart on her site a bunch of times but have never pulled the trigger! Given the super evocative names of her blends, I’d have expected them to be far more flavorful. :(

Inkling

So glad it worked out that this was a brand you wanted to try! I just placed my first order from her a couple of weeks before making your calendar, so I had a lot to share. :)

Made this one earlier in the week and though it was pleasant tasting I thought it also made for a very, very thin cup – just needed a lot more body overall, especially for something as decadent as French Toast. To be clear though, I mean in terms of mouthfeel/texture. Not sweetness. You don’t need to make a sweet tea to make a good French Toast blend, but IMO you’re never gonna come close to really selling a profile as French Toast if the cup is thin and watery.

I do really appreciate, as always, how extremely natural Deb’s banana flavours are. They always have that perfect slightly green hint to them and it really makes them stand out.

2022 Spring Tea Swap – Day 11
From Emilie!

This smells like actual dried banana, not banana candy! Not only is the flavoring spot-on, but the base tea is delicious. It’s proving to be perfect for breakfast. I have to say, I’m so impressed with the Dessert by Deb blends so far. I’d been on the fence about placing an order, but I think it’s inevitable at this point.

So not technically a sipdown just yet, but I’m setting aside the rest of this pouch to send to an Instagram friend who is interested in banana teas. So, future shipdown! Or swapdown? :P

The banana here is nice, I like the banana flavoring that Deb uses as it tastes like actual bananas instead of Runts. But there’s not a whole lot else going on, other than the sweetness of the maple. And I don’t really like the black tea that Deb uses, I find it a bit bland but also tannic, sort of the worst of both worlds ha ha. It’s not overly tannic, but enough to dry my mouth out a bit, and it just doesn’t have the strength of flavor to balance that out.

So meh, nice banana but otherwise not my favorite. Slightly too sweet for me as well.

Ha yeah, I don’t count sipdowns because it gets complicated with teas I swap or share with family. To me, it’s just satisfying to be able to fill an emptied tin with a new tea!

Iced Latte Sipdown (206)

This was good as an iced latte. The banana came through very clearly with some French toast sweetness. It was an 8 oz serving so I wasn’t bored by the French toast flavour and mostly could focus on the banana.

odd one out here…banana flavour seemed artificial to me. Will need to try it again when i can pay more attention to it

Big roundup of Dessert by Deb teas today. I was pretty excited for this one! And it was good. I drank this while working so didn’t pay close attention, but the banana flavour was pretty authentic, and the base was strong, but not astringent. Didn’t notice french toast in particular but it was obviously not just banana in black tea. I think I’ll enjoy drinking the rest of it.

Silent Kettle

Yeah! :( I wish this had more maple in it!

Silent Kettle

But it tasted like a good, wholesome banana tea haha

AJRimmer

This flavor sounds super good! There need to be more banana teas out there!

Silent Kettle

@AJRimmer , this is probably the best banana tea I have ever had. It tastes amazing. But there isn’t much french toast element to it, lol! :)

Kittenna

It’s not the best banana tea I’ve had, but definitely in the top half of ones I’ve tried. It might be even better with an extra drizzle of maple syrup?

Silent Kettle

Yeah! I think it needs a drizzle of maple syrup for sure to make it taste like french toast.

I am going to increase my rating for this tea because I think Deb nailed the banana aspect of this tea without using natural or artificial flavourings, which seems difficult to do.

Also, this tea is bursting with bananas! Deb dispersed the banana chunks evenly throughout the blend. I can see why this one is out of stock now; I will have to repurchase it when I get the chance.

I still wish the maple/syrup notes were stronger, but it is an outstanding take on a banana tea.

gmathis

Does the banana make the tea oily? I don’t mind banana flavor, but the texture triggers ugly first-job Dairy Queen banana sensory memories :)

Silent Kettle

Ha-ha! Oh my gosh, I feel that! That is a good question! :) I didn’t find this to be the case personally, even when I had it black! You could request a small sample of this for free from Deb to try it! :D
