From Dessert by Deb

Do you love tea and cookies? Perfect, so does Deb! Tea and cookies is one of Deb’s favourite things (right up there with tea and cake), especially tea and shortbread cookies. So, Deb took one of her favourite tea combinations (she loves all things ginger with fruit), put it together with her love of cookies, and came up with this delicious fruity explosion!

Orange Ginger Shortbread is bursting with bright zesty orange with a bit of zing from ginger and sweetness from maple and brown sugar. Cookie, anyone?

Certified organic ingredients: Fair Trade Rooibos, Vanilla, Oranges, Orange Peel, Ginger, Canadian Maple, Brown Sugar

Handcrafted in Toronto, Canada.

Steeping instructions: 2 tea spoons @ 212F for 4-6 mins

#tiffanys2021sipdown Tea #151 overall / Tea #22 for April

Thursday 04/15 — Dessert by Deb Orange Ginger Shortbread. So yesterday/today are kind of my days off for the week – Micah’s birthday yesterday so we hung out (tried to get him to take off from work), today I work at my side hotel + have a soccer game tonight (my professional team, Columbus Crew first home match tonight & Sunday regular season opener at home!). I work so many days/hours at random shifts and schedules every single week so I take what I can for “me time” (which isn’t much). Anyway, I was making myself breakfast yesterday late morning and did a bunch of cold-brew: 2 full size pitchers (Verdant Tea 2020 green, The Tea Lab tangerine white tea), a 20 oz glass jar (my Ode to Tea Z entry), and this a half pitcher with Deb’s Orange Ginger Shortbread. I let all the teas sit out for a while during the day before putting into fridge to sip on in the future. This was the only “sip-down” and one of my OG teas from my very first order from Deb in 2019 (2 years ago). In this nice 32 oz jug the orange and rooibos shine, not really getting the ginger. Also a sweetness which I’m sure is vanilla/maple/ brown sugar. I imagine this would make a nice iced latte as I’d be afraid the orange would curdle milk in a hot latte.

Sipdown! (48)

I sent samples of this to several people, so I only had a couple of servings to finish off. Not that I mind, I love sharing tea and I can easily buy more if I love it!

This has a lovely orange aroma and flavor. It’s amazing to me that the dried orange segments contribute so much flavor to the blend! So there’s a wonderful authentic orange note, along with some rich creaminess from the vanilla pieces. As for the ginger, I’m not getting much other than a light tingly sensation at the end of the sip.

Also, even though there’s maple and brown sugar here, it’s not very sweet at all, which is nice. The orange and vanilla already give it a sweet edge, so more sweetness isn’t really needed. The rooibos is also extremely mild.

I like it! I will say, I’m not really getting much ginger or shortbread here. Maybe a honeybush base would have made it a bit more cookie-ish, but I expect a shortbread to be quite buttery. But as a creamy orange rooibos tisane, it’s very pleasant! I can’t wait to try the other orange teas I have from Deb!

This tea DOES smell really good and flavourful. But I do wish there was more ginger in this! :(

This smells just like Fanta! It has a lovely orange smell! I steeped this hot. When I drank it, I did not get much of the ginger. Maybe it has a slight ginger note? However, it tastes mostly like a lovely, warm orange tea!

I love sweet orange teas. I am not a huge fan of rooibos, but I do not taste the red rooibos at all in this! Which is wonderful for me. Although I liked the blood orange cider more, I still enjoyed this tea.

Overall, I think where Deb excels is her citrus flavours! And this tea was no exception; a nice and refreshing drink. I wish it was a tad stronger on the ginger note, but I still loved it!

Ooooo! I’m kinda liking this! I’m not a huge fan of rooibos, but there isn’t much of that flavor coming through. I’m getting a strong creamy orange with a touch of ginger behind it. It’s ever so slightly sweet, but like the other DDB blends I’m not able to link it to maple in my brain. I also don’t quite get the shortbread part. There is a touch of tartness in the finish that is just distracting enough to make me want to take another sip. I bet this would be good with some creamer, but I’m enjoying it enough as it is. Thanks VariaTEA for the chance to try this!

I had this hot and it was better than the cold cup I had. The rooibos was more toned down and the orange was more turned up. Still no ginger but something was a touch buttery which sold shortbread a bit. Bumping the rating slightly from 66.

Silent Kettle

Yes, this blend would be so good if it had a tad bit more ginger!
