Sipdown/Advent Backlog

I’ve mentioned before that my greatest disappointment in the B&B Advent was the high amount of sleepy time teas; which I suppose isn’t necessarily a bad thing, it’s not their fault I work second shift.

Anyway, I need to get to bed early tonight – as close to 24:00 as possible – to prepare for a tea exchange tomorrow (first a morning workout). I decided it’s time to really get the sipdown pile down and rid myself the worry of having too many bits of tea samples.

Ok, I’m getting somewhat sidetracked. To my surprise, this is a lovely tea. It reminds me of juicy fruit gum, but with a chamomile bite. I’ve been slowly drinking it on and off, and the more it cools, the more fruity it becomes. B&B really does a great job on their blends, but sometimes, when one fails my palate, it really fails my palate. This passes the test.

The scent for this one is strongly fruity – maybe passion fruit? It lingered in my kitchen for days actually. The flavor is mostly chamomile, and it’s a nice chamomile. I actually prefer it a little above room temperature. I found the flavor thinly fruity when I had it cold. It’s interesting how a few degrees made such a difference. Warmish, it’s a tasty chamomile with a fruity background. I enjoy this, but I don’t think I’d buy it again. Also, in some sips, it tastes like celery, which I’m not a fan of.

Double D! Nice.

Received this in my January subscription from Bird and Blend, and was very excited, as it’s one I’ve had my eye on. The aroma was full of juicy fruits, and the flavor was surprising pineapple forward. I could definitely taste the chamomile, but it worked in harmony with the fruit notes. Luckily I know that valerian root has a very intense effect on me, so I drank this at bedtime. It felt like I was tranquilized (in the best possible way), and I ended up having a very, very restful sleep. I’m very glad I got to try this one.

January 2020 subscription

When I have received an herbal blend based on chamomile, I thought that this tea will rest for long probably. Nobody in my family is fan of chamomile, but when it is evening and family wants a tea – I had to pick up this one. Oh, okay, I had lots of other teas to use, but I thought I will brew something fresh. And nobody was fan of spicy teas (other caffeine-free alternatives) today.

I used maybe half of the pouch (that’s 10 grams) into big strainer, boiling water and… voilá – we have maybe 2 litres of tea?

Of course I took my cup and decided to make a tasting note.
It seems indeed chamomile is in based on aroma, but with some fruit notes, maybe a little bit like vanilla too? Blind tasting says it is fruit tea instead of herbal, again I notice vanilla there with some citrus (Scheherazade noticed grapefruit and I agree, but not fully). It’s as well creamy (as she noticed), certainly not chamomile herbal taste at all.

I have expected much worse, but actually it is nice surprise (and finally a loose leaf tea today).

Huh, I got this in my subscription packet, but really don’t like chamomile tea so I haven’t opened it. Based on your tasting note, I think I will try it.

derk

Martin — today was utter shit. It was a strange day, the first ever that I almost called out of work despite no being sick. I went home for lunch and as I was putting my shoes on to go back to work, the post came and I had to sign for your package! Since then, a day of small, happy happenings continued to occur. And now I’m smiling in love. Thank you for your generosity <3

Maddy Barone – me as well, I drink chamomile only if I have to. Which don’t happen very often recently. But luckily it is not only chamomile tea.

Happy to hear derk. Actually, I have turned on the e-mail notifications. But for sure I am happy that no customs duty had to be paid, because the postman was very importunate about writing real value on customs declaration. He warned me that it must be correct, otherwise I will pay all the postage and customs work in US and everything you can think of. So I wrote down some value. And now, weekend will come, so you can dig in into my teas. Or any teas. Days like yours suck the most. Something is wrong that day, nobody really knows what and there are no signs of better. But then it comes and everything is fine again. I hope you will like them; but unfortuntely, I promised you making Steepster entry for one of the herbal tea, but I somehow forgot and more over was in hurry whole week. Enjoy!

The last of Bird & Blend’s summer collection. I left this one because I was sure it was the one I’d be least bothered about, but it’s actually really nice. It doesn’t sound exciting – chamomile, apple, rosehip, hibi, valerian, linden, orange peel – just like a run of the mill fruit/herbal blend. The scent is delicious, though, and really reminds me of something – I think maybe it’s Davids Tea Goji Pop, but I can’t remember that one quite clearly enough to say for certain.

The flavour is much, much better than I was expecting. It’s slightly sharp (rather reminiscent of pink grapefruit), slightly tart from the hibiscus, and creamy. It reminds me a little of cream soda, maybe one flavoured with rhubarb or something along those lines. I hesitate to say it’s fruity, but there is a background sour apple kind of thing going on. It’s delicious! I didn’t think I’d want to put this one in lemonade, but I think that’s the next thing I need to try; I have a feeling it might be a beautiful thing!

I love this one, rather unexpectedly. I might even buy more before the summer is over!

I passed over this one too because it seemed pretty basic, but this post has me changing my mind!
