Yaupon Tea
I had never heard of yaupon tea, until it was featured on the NPR radio game show called Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me last night, scheduled to air this Saturday, July 19, 2025. It is a native North American variety of holly, and historically a part of traditional ceremonies among the indigenous peoples. Also one of only two species containing caffeine that is native to the continent. I’m now eager to try the tisane, and was pleased to see several entries here on Steepster, including both green and black options from Harney & Sons! (Their current offering is a bit different now, but still includes a yaupon black.) Any current readers here experience yaupon tisanes and care to comment? Time soon for me to place an order!
I really enjoyed CatSpring Yaupon’s offerings, they have three different roasts and offer a sampler. They also happen to be located just a couple of hours from me!
I’m not the biggest fan of it on its own unless it’s been roasted, but I do enjoy it in blends. Another plus one for CatSpring as well – on top of having lovely yaupon they’re also just lovely people.
