Steepster Bug Status Thread

Newly created teas are never showing up in a search. Even weeks later. https://steepster.com/teas/lupicia/87093-ratatam I think I added this one a while ago, and it doesn’t come up in the search. I have to sort by the newly added teas for Lupicia teas for this one to show up. This has always happened, or has been for years now, I guess I’m just mentioning it now. But if newly added teas aren’t showing up in the search, people might start adding double or triples of the same tea.

Weird, that one is showing up for me in the search.

Jason select said 6 years ago

Hmm, I’m seeing it in the search too: https://cl.ly/5c5911c833d7

Maybe the results are cached in your browser? Does it show up if you clear your browser cache?

tea-sipper select said 6 years ago

I see ratatam in the search bar too, and then I have to click down, but I guess I’m saying if I just type ratatam and hit enter, it says there are no results on the next page. So I guess it will work as long as I click down to the correct tea and not just hit enter to see the ’we’re not familiar with that tea yet’ page. And I’ve definitely cleared my browser at least a couple times since I added ratatam.

Cameron B. select said 6 years ago

If I type “ratatam” and press enter, it does have the one result on the following page.

tea-sipper select said 6 years ago

hmm.. Cameron can you try this with a tea you have recently added?

Jason select said 6 years ago

Yea, ratatam shows up on the search results page for me too.

It’s definitely possible that there could be a lag between when a tea is added and when it is indexed so that it can appear in search results. But usually that should happen on the scale of minutes/hour rather than days.

tea-sipper select said 6 years ago

I don’t know what is happening then. Like I said, this is not the first tea that this happened with.

Jason select said 6 years ago

Yea, hard to say. I guess keep an eye on it and if you see another example feel free to send it my way.

Addresses containing all caps do not fully link. Example:

https://steepster.com/EXAMPLE

Related to that, it seems like usernames are not case-sensitive. Like I can type in my username address https://steepster.com/derk in any combination of lower or uppercase and still get to the same page.

But I came across a page recently while browsing spam accounts:

https://steepster.com/PRESS (doesn’t fully link because all uppercase)

that links to a spam account, while the all lowercase https://steepster.com/press fully links to Steepsters ‘About’ page. Two different pages for what is the same address.

I’m getting this page a lot when I’m trying to access my messages page. This has been happening for a few days, before and after I deleted the internet history. I have to refresh the page a few times to get it to work.

derk said 6 years ago

I’ve been getting this, too, on the messages, explore and recent pages only.

Jason select said 6 years ago

Yea, looks like a number of the pages are currently slow. We’ll take a look.

__Morgana__ said 6 years ago

I have not been able to get to “explore” in several weeks. Error message, or black screen that something went wrong.

derk said 6 years ago

Everything that timed out before or was slow to access is loading at fast speeds now! Wait, no, Explore and Recent are loading without issue but I’m still having issues getting to my messages.

tea-sipper select said 6 years ago

Derk, same here. Everything is fast but messages still having problems.

Not really a bug.. but I was wondering what to do if there are duplicates/ multiples of the same tea in the system? Should there be a forum thread just for people to list links of the same teas, so they can eventually be combined? Not a high priority thing, so I also don’t want to send a billion e-mails about it.

Jason select said 6 years ago

Right now people have been emailing them to me. Since I can’t fix them at the moment, I’m just saving them until I can fix them again. Personally I prefer this because then there isn’t another discussion thread cluttering the list that isn’t very useful for most people. But, people do need to know that they can send me the duplicates…

tea-sipper select said 6 years ago

Then you might have many people sending you messages about the same duplicates until they can be fixed. But I understand about not wanting another thread for it.

Jason select said 6 years ago

I’m generally fine with that because I can just archive them quickly to save for later. But yea, I could definitely have duplicate reports of duplicates :)

tea-sipper select said 6 years ago

uh oh. duplicates of the duplicates! haha. Thanks again, Jason.

mrmopar said 6 years ago

I am having problems with the discussion page. I can’t get it to load for me.

tea-sipper select said 6 years ago

Yep, I have also been having problems with the discussion page for the last couple days.

Hey Jason,

I’ve had a minor annoyance with my messages besides the frequent timeouts. My message notification in the top bar has been stuck on “1” for a month or so but all my messages have been read. I’ve cleared Chrome’s cache with no luck. Any clue? Any other members having this issue?

Tonight I had to clear the cookies on my browser to fix a few browser issues. When I tried to log back into Steepster, I was unable to log in and access my account because I just continually got the 503 timeout error over and over.

The only way I was able to get back into my account was by “linking” my Google account since I happened to use my Gmail as my sign-up on here. That allowed me to finally log in and access my account again.

Dashboard might be stuck again. I haven’t seen any new tasting notes for six hours (the last one was mine that I’m following anyway- 52Teas Raspberry Lemon Cheesecake? )

tea-sipper select said 6 years ago

I thought the dashboard was fine, but now the newest tasting note is from 12 hours ago? Unless it’s just slow on Steepster right now?

Mastress Alita said 6 years ago

It’s been slowed down so bad I couldn’t even log back into my account after I had to clear my cache/cookies the other night… The only way I was able to get back on here to you guys was linking Google to my account, which somehow let me back in. The regular “log in” using my username and password always gave me the 503 error, every time. I’m starting to wonder if some of our folks like Cameron that we just haven’t seen in a while are just perpetually stuck logged out because they can’t get back in to their accounts because of the slowed status/503s…

tea-sipper select said 6 years ago

Oh I didn’t think of that. Thanks for posting the issue here in case anyone else has that problem. Personally, I would NOT be able to figure something like that out and I’d probably be locked out of my account forever. haha.

mrmopar said 6 years ago

I have to refresh quite a bit when I see the error pop up. That has been working at least for me.

Mastress Alita said 6 years ago

If you are already logged in, sure. But when I was logged out (had to clear my cookies to resolve a certain browser issue) because of the 503 error, it couldn’t… finish the log-in process. It would just time out in the middle of that process, and if I refreshed, I was just back at the “please log in” page, and still not logged in. Over and over again. That’s why I worry some of the regulars may be stuck unable to access their accounts, if they happened to have shut down their browsers/logged out/had to clear their caches/cookies/etc? Linking my account with Google was the only thing that somehow “got past” the 503 timeouts and back into my account.

Kind of a weird one, but when I log onto Steepster from my home laptop my dashboard seems to be stick on tasting notes from about a day ago, and I can’t “like” any of them. However, when I log onto Steepster from my work laptop I can see tasting notes posted as recently as a few minutes ago and have no issues liking any of the posts. I’m using the same browser (Chrome) and both are the most recent version of Chrome…

derk said 6 years ago

Try going into Chrome’s history to clear your cache and cookies. I had the same issue last night with my dashboard not updating and being unable to like tasting notes.

Kawaii433 said to me in a message: she can’t post in the forums at all for some reason and also hasn’t been able to do any profile updates for months.
So apparently various Steepsterers are having various different problems? I’m only getting the error message on my messages until I refresh a few times and it works.

tea-sipper select said 6 years ago

Kawaii433 also mentioned it saying there is one unread message but there isn’t… I think a few people are having these problems.
Many people love Steepster despite the problems and we have appreciated the work put into Steepster all these years!

Is it normal that my ‘sent’ messages is only showing one page of sent messages? The messages I’ve received is showing all of the messages since I started on Steepster…
