Recent Tasting Notes

I received this as a gift from China. The jasmine is pretty strong. I prefer when there’s something else in there to balance it out. It does taste good, it’s just not really my thing. I definitely appreciate that people bring me tea from their vacations though!

Tea Swap Sample Sipdown of the Day! (14)

This is the very last tea from my swap with AJRimmer. Sorry it took me so long to try them all! This is why I’ve started committing to one swap tea sipdown each day. :P

This is an interesting oolong with strong mineral notes. It’s actually somewhat similar to gunpowder green tea, which has a heavily mineral flavor with earthy smoke elements. This tea does not have the vegetal character of a green tea, however.

I assume this tieguanyin is at least partially baked, as it has a mellow, comforting roasty flavor that is not overwhelming, as well as a golden liquor. There is a light hay-like mustiness here as well, which reminds me of bai mudan. It does have the classic silky mouthfeel and floral nectar notes that I expect from a green oolong, and a hint of fuzzy apricot at the end of the sip.

What an interesting tea, with aspects of green and white teas as well as oolong. I happen to enjoy mineral notes in lighter teas, so I quite like it! :)

From my swap with AJRimmer.

I do enjoy jasmine green teas. I should really find one to keep on hand – I’ll have to get a sample of Teavivre’s to try the next time I order from them.

This tea is almost entirely jasmine in its flavor. I don’t really taste the green tea except for briefly in the aftertaste. I can just catch a bit of dry leaf and apricot as well as a touch of astringency. The jasmine is very sweet, it almost tastes as if I’ve added sweetener to the cup.

It’s still fairly tasty, even if it is a bit too strong on the jasmine.

My favorite jasmine from Teavivre is Jasmine Dragon Pearl, although the Superfine Downy is more expensive and supposed to be a finer tea. I love all of their jasmine teas. Their peach jasmine dragon pearl is quite good, also. Have you tried any of those?

Cameron B.

I’ve probably tried one or more of them at some point, but it would’ve been a few years ago so I don’t recall. :P

Their shipping is so reasonable that I’ll likely just make a small sample order early next year.

To correct my first statement, my favorite is their Premium Jasmine Dragon Pearl. They do sell one without the word Premium and I don’t think I have tried it,
