drank Darjeeling Earl Grey by Teapigs

I got a bag of this in a trade with QueenOfTarts! I was intrigued by it, as I’ve noticed that flavored darjeelings seem to be on the rare side. Which is probably a good thing, because it makes me think of a beautiful song being autotuned to hell.

But this is different. I am all about Earl Grey, so the autotuning is welcome. I can immediately tell that this isn’t like the usual Ceylon greys I’m used to. The darjeeling’s muscatel flavor is hidden in the background, in the aftertaste. It blends with the bergamot in an interesting way that reminds me of lemony white wine, if that sort of thing existed. As usual, however, the zesty bergamot is the strongest flavor. It isn’t followed with the bitterness that I’m used to, but it’s still a satisfying cup.

i love earl grey but i’m not keen on this one … sorry tea pigs. i find it bitter and it smells herbal rather than citrusy. maybe it’s the darjeeling? i don’t know. personally i like chinese teas so this one isn’t for me.

Pleasant and mellow but a tad tasteless to me, but then I am new to Oolong and only began drinking it last week.

Vibrant peppermint tea. Very, very strong (in a good way)

drank Peppermint Leaves by Teapigs

This is so pepperminty it makes yer eyes pop oot! Not literally, as that’d be an awful shame, but think of it as somewhat akin to the old Vicks stick under the eyeballs. You know, that trick you used to use to make yourself look like you’d been crying so you could get sent home from school on some emotional trauma charge.
Back to the tea – simply the best peppermint I’ve tasted, although very very spensive. Not an everyday peppermint by any standards! One can but dream. This is a fresh, light mintorama and soothing on the stomach to boot. Buy it noo!

This was sent to me as a review sample.

I can see what Teapigs are trying to do here – they are introducing matcha to the Western world as a health product. They have imported organic matcha (hence the very high price), but it is not neccessarily high quality matcha. The flavour was bland and bitter, and the powder was not as brightly coloured as I would have liked to have seen. You can find higher quality matcha at a lower price (with all the health benefits!) in Japanese grocery stores.

Teapigs products are normally quite good, but I think they are just jumping on the health bandwagon with this one.

drank Lemon and Ginger by Teapigs
6 tasting notes

Perfectly balanced; the absence of artificial flavours makes a cup that is so natural and pleasant, filled with gentle but satisfying lemony notes and a slight ginger “tickle” that makes the difference.

The liquorice root, wich I usually can’t stand, remains in the background and does not disturb at all.

drank Chai Tea by Teapigs

This is a fine chai. Flavorful. I am a little surprised, though, that this is an Assam based tea, because it doesn’t taste as rich as Assam as I have come to know it. It is still very flavorful, but it tastes a little … thin. If I had been served this, I would have thought this was a decaf, because of the thinner taste and texture.

It is still very good though.

Thanks to TeaEqualsBliss for sending this one my way!

drank Chai Tea by Teapigs

I had this at Parched Tea Bar earlier, and I thought it was a good (if pretty generic) tasting chai. I had it with milk and a little sugar. It was a little heavy on the ginger, but not unbearably so.

I brought this tea with me to class today and paired it with a muffin that a fellow student shared. The muffin was delicious and actually worked well with the tea. I’m not crazy about Earl Grey, but this was a relatively solid cup. I liked how I could taste the base of the tea which seemed smooth and bitter at the same time. I have a feeling I would like this tea more if I enjoyed drinking Earl Grey more often.

I didn’t really know what to expect from this tea. I like Teapigs tea, but I’m also quite fond of FLAVORED white tea, not plain. That being said, this is a very interesting cup. I like that it has different layers: a little bit of sweet grass and a little bit of vegetables. I’m not sure that I would like to have boxes upon boxes of this tea, but it is naturally nice.

drank Rooibos Creme Caramel by Teapigs

I got a box of this to go with my new Brugo travel mug from TeaPigs, and I must say, I am impressed with both. This rooibos smells waaaay too sweet when dry, but it doesn’t taste so overwhelmingly sickly – the caramel is balanced nicely with the woody rooibos. I even got a second steep out of this – the taste was just as strong and sweet.

drank Yerba Mate by Teapigs

Thank you to TeaEqualsBliss for sending me some of this Yerba Mate!

This is a good Yerba Mate. It has a vegetative undertone to it, but nothing too overwhelming. The earthiness is there too, as well as a pleasant sweetness to it.

drank Darjeeling Earl Grey by Teapigs

Yesterday morning I stopped at a coffee shop to possibly get some tea, and I noticed that said coffee shop was serving teapigs tea, which definitely surprised me as I am in Warsaw now. I’ve never had teapigs but I’ve heard it is good, so it was a pleasant surprise.
Side note: I love how Earl Grey is universal, at least in Europe. Whether you’re ordering a tea, or a thé, or a tee, or herbata (in Polish), it’s always “Earl Grey”, no one translates it. :)

Anyway, I saw that they were doing the Darjeeling Earl Grey, and though I don’t think I’m the biggest fan of Darjeelings at this point, I ordered it anyway. My steeping environment was less than ideal; I was running around a huge underground circle trying to find the right staircase up to get the tram I wanted. I thought about stopping the tea at 3 minutes, but tried a taste and decided it could go longer, thinking just another minute or two, but by the time I found another trash can for the sachet it had steeped for 6 minutes.

Still, no bitterness! And the tea surprised me further that I definitely enjoyed it. I seem to like Earl Greys best with a Ceylon base, but this Darjeeling was pretty good! The bergamot was definitely present in the flavor but not very strong (I’d maybe have it a little stronger, as long as it didn’t venture into the bitter-bergamot territory). The Darjeeling base was light, bright, almost grassy, and I’m pretty sure it was the Darjeeling (possibly interacting with the bergamot) that gave it a light note on the end of the sip that I eventually identified as distinctly lemony.

Overall a solid EG that I would drink again (and probably will while I’m in Warsaw), but I don’t think I’ll be switching to Darjeeling EGs all the same.

drank Chai Tea by Teapigs

This is a very nice Chai. You can see the quality of the ingredients inside the bag, and the tea is very tasty. As with all chais, this one has to be consumed with milk and sugar to do it justice.

It’s a nice occasional treat for me, but I don’t usually drink sugary tea.

This was the first Matcha I ever tried. I bought it from a health food shop for a small fortune (or so it seemed). In terms of health benefits, I definitely noticed a real boost in energy and a feeling of wellbeing when I drank it, which lasted throughout the day. I noticed that I was much less exhausted in the late evening.

However, the taste was quite bland. It had hardly any bitterness, which is a real plus, but not much character, either.

My confidence in this brand of matcha was not heightened when I saw the youtube vids made by the company that showed how you could blend the match with apple juice or put it on your breakfast cereal so that you don’t have to taste it…

I also found that it was much cheaper to import good quality Matcha from Japan than it was to buy this, although the high price could be the fault of the healthfood shop.

Even though I wasn’t thrilled with this tea when I first tried it, it’s been my choice for an morning or afternoon cup. I’ve really been enjoying it with a splash of milk. The tea base isn’t terribly strong and is a little bit on the weak side, but it seems to work with the chocolate flavoring. It’s strange because on its own, the chocolate is more on the bitter, darker side. With milk, though, the chocolate seems to be more between a milk and a dark.

Even though it’s not my most favorite tea in the world, I would add this to a future order. It’s a gentle and sweet cup that’s very drinkable.

This afternoon I had a crazy craving for chocolate. I wanted something sweet, creamy and rich. I realized that I had this Chocolate Flake tea to try, so I popped a bag into a mug! I love that the scent is initially a bit buttery. As you bring your nose closer to the tea, you can detect more of the chocolate and the black tea. Taste is sweet, but not as sweet as many other teas out there. This is more of a sophisticated kind of chocolate – not your everyday cheap chocolate bars. The flavor combined with the assam makes it almost have a “bitter” finish, although bitter isn’t the right word. I suppose it’s a sweet kind of bitter. This is a solid cup of tea that isn’t too sweet, but definitely has a sophisticated richness. Thanks so much to Alana237!

I haven’t been able to drink tea lately since it’s been so darn hot! I’m not a big homemade iced tea drinker (we don’t have ice at the house) so I waited until it was dark and cool outside. I finally was able to have a cup of this tea this evening and it’s smooth, sweet and comforting, as usual.

I had this tea again and I realize that I keep coming back to this one. The tea smells buttery, sweet and woodsy. It makes a really enjoyable cup for me at the end of the day. This will definitely be a repurchase unless someone points me in the direction of another good rooibos caramel tea. Delicious cup!

Very yummy tea! I wouldn’t say that there is anything that distinguishes this rooibos from another. It has that same rooibos flavor with a hint of sweetness. I love the scent of this tea.. really creamy and sweet. The material used for the tea temple is especially nice and silky. Quite a good cup! Thank you so much to Alana237 for this tea!

WOW! This is really, really strong! I don’t usually like peppermint but I thought I’d try this as a cooling tea in summer. It left me feeling as though I have just brushed my teeth, which is a nice sensation. Apart from a slight “dustiness” (I can’t think of any other way to describe it) as it cooled down, this was pretty decent.
