Although listed as a green, this reminded me more of a roasted oolong in the way it smelled and tasted. The dry leaf smelled a bit like chocolate. The infusion had that roasted tea smell and taste which was the dominant taste note for me.

This was a very pleasant morning tea. I enjoyed it a lot.

drank Rose Buds by Teacha Tea
42 tasting notes

This was part of the September subscription from Teacha. The 1 tsp actually refers to 1 teabag.

The dry buds smelled quite strongly of rose. It reminded me of some rose scented soaps. However, once steeped the scent was much more mild and not cloying. Overall, I enjoyed this more than I expected given my reaction to previous tisanes. This wasn’t bad bud it had a thin mouthfeel. Overall it was ok but not something I’d go out of my way for.

This was one of the teas of in the September tea subscription from Teacha.

Strangely, the peach and ginger combined to have something of a minty aroma when dry, at least on first impression.

I did two infusions, the first for 3 minutes and the second for 5 minutes. The first tended more towards ginger and the second more toward peach. While this was refreshing and left my mouth feeling surprisingly clean it didn’t really satisfy me. I haven’t really preferred most flavored teas so don’t let my lack of enthusiasm steer you away. It was decent and certainly quite drinkable, just not something I could get especially excited about.

drank Genmaicha by Teacha Tea
42 tasting notes

The 1tsp is actually 1 teabag since this is a tea from the Teacha monthly subscription.

I’ve only had genmaicha once before and it had such a strong rice component that, as my spouse put it, tasted like hot shredded wheat. This was much more subdued and while the other was drinkable (wish I could remember the brand), this was actually pleasant and quite drinkable.

drank White Peony Supreme by Teacha Tea

This is from the Teacha subscription so the 1 tsp in the description below is really 1 teabag.

The flavors and scents are mild but quite pleasant. A bit of floral smell along with a grassy taste followed up by a not quite bitter ending. All together it is a very pleasant way to start my morning.

drank Moroccan Ruby Mint by Teacha Tea

They say this brews up fuschia but on my second tea bag it comes out brown. Tastes ok either way. Leaves the mouth feeling refreshed but mint teas never taste as good as they smell to me.

Flavors: Peppermint, Spearmint

drank Moroccan Ruby Mint by Teacha Tea

I’m not really a fan of herbal teas but this was part of the Teacha subscription for the first month. The “tea” is in a large teabag and when dry smells strongly of spearmint. After steeping for 5 minutes the brew smelled of spearmint though not as strongly as when dry.

It was pleasant. The flavor was mild. It left my mouth feeling clean and refreshed. If you like mint then this will probably be enjoyable to you.

drank Estate Darjeeling by Teacha Tea
42 tasting notes

After last night’s bad experience with Darjeeling I thought I’d give the second teabag from the Teacha subscription a try this morning. I steeped this at work so the temperature is a guess. I’m not entirely sure what temperature it was but hopefully that’s the right ballpark.

I’m not sure if was a lower temperature or the comparison to last night’s experience but this seemed a lot better than the last time I tried it. The tea wasn’t bitter (probably the lower temperature) but the flavors were very mild. Overall it was a very pleasant mid-morning tea.

This is from the Teacha subscription so the 1tsp is actually 1 teabag.

Of the two Darjeelings I’ve tried I liked this one the best, but perhaps I’m just not a fan of Darjeeling. There isn’t anything offensive about this tea but the flavors are perhaps too subtle for my palate.

There is another flavor mixed in with the tea and bitter taste that I can’t quite identify. It’s not a strong flavor but it’s not one that I’m enjoying. The bitterness is not unpleasant.

Overall this is not a tea that I would seek out.

drank Four Seasons Oolong by Teacha Tea
42 tasting notes

This is a teabag from the Teacha subscription so the 1 tsp measurement is really 1 teabag but I’m not sure how much tea is in that bag.

I’m new to tea and probably lack some of the vocabulary and don’t have a lot of reference points yet so take my rating and descriptions with a few grains of salt.

The dry leaf in the bag smelled of chocolate to me. This was quite strong but very pleasant. Since the tea was in a bag I brewed it as western style as close to the recommended temperature and time as I could get. I ended up with 4 minutes and 200 degree water.

The tea was a pale yellow and the chocolate smell was there but had become less like cocoa and more earthy or nutty (sorry but I can’t find the right word to describe this). The taste was very pleasant. I’m guessing this was the roasting of the tea I was smelling and tasting. The tea was not at all bitter and was quite enjoyable. I didn’t get much in the way of other flavors but I enjoyed it enough to try a second steeping, this time for 5 minutes.

The tea held up fairly well. The flavors were a bit more subdued but overall it was still very pleasant.

The tea left me pleasantly energized (though not caffeine jittery) and surprisingly feeling full. I guess there was something in that roasty flavor and the mouthfeel that, at least for the moment, left me feeling like I had eaten something more substantial.
