drank Hibiscus Peach by Octavia Tea
902 tasting notes

This was an extra sample that was tucked into my Octavia order. I’m very excited to get to try it, especially since I would have probably ordered it had I not completely missed it on their website. I love rooibos blends, partly because I really enjoy the flavor of rooibos, and partly because they’re caffeine-free and I can drink them right up until bedtime and still be able to sleep. I also love hibiscus blends, again because of the caffeine-freeness of it, and because I love the sweet/tart/tanginess that they have.

Combine those two and add peaches? Damn, that’s some good stuff.

The peach is strong and distinctive, and is definitely the strongest flavor, followed closely by hibiscus and then the rooibos. The peach is a true, ripe, Georgia peach that tastes as though you just bit into a perfect peach. This tea is sweet, tart, and in-your-face. Just by drinking a few sips hot, I know I could drink gallons of this during the summer months.

This is growing on me. It does have a nice mouthfeel especially if I go heavy on the leaf.

Getting a lot of creamy mouthfeel from this today, and a lot of bright flavors.

Silly silly me. I read and believed the description! If you get this, try not to read the label too much. I found it a fairly nice basic green-ish oolong. Similar to a Ti Kwan Yi style. A slightly creamy mouthfeel, and a basic nice green flavor. Not a bad oolong, but I didn’t find the raisins or warmed figs.

I’ll play with the parameters, maybe I can get it to change.

Love this tea. having a MEH kind of day, so I wanted to cheer myself up. This is helping.

Angrboda

Liking it helping, not the meh. Don’t like the meh.

Yum. Something mellow for the morning. It’s a wonderful tea. I should probably have something a little more caffeniated, since I’m still kinda out of it, but I couldn’t resist the orange-y yumminess.

This is a lovely way to start a morning. Mellow, smooth, and orange-y. Yum.

My first thought on opening the package was “Where’s the TEA?” – there are so many jasmine blossoms and other random plant-y bits that you can hardly see the little oolong nuggets in the blend. But then the scent hit me, and I didn’t care anymore. SO ORANGEY… Yum.

Brewed, it’s got an orange oil aroma and a golden yellow brew.

My first steep was very orange, but with the oolong underneath, and just a hint of a silky mouthfeel. The second brew almost tastes more lemony than orange, but the flavors are more mellow and blended.

Very posh, very nice. I like this LOTS.

drank French Breakfast by Octavia Tea

It’s rather smokier than I was expecting it to taste. The smell is all vanilla-caramel, with just a hint of rose. There’s vanilla in the taste, but also this burnt-smoky flavor as well. It reminds me of the Stash decaf creme caramel I had a while back and couldn’t stomach. Perhaps I’m tasting the caramel flavor and not enjoying it in tea form? Which is rather sad, since I adore real caramel.

As the pot dwindles, it’s getting smoother and I taste more vanilla. But I doubt I’ll ever invest in more. Still just tastes burnt.

drank Winter Mint by Octavia Tea

Finishing up the sample that I had of this. Wasn’t quite enough for a full pot, but it works really well regardless and is delicious. Hopefully it’ll keep me calm around the family this afternoon. Oh, sometimes the holidays aren’t worth the trouble. Perhaps I’ll go to a beach next year and avoid all of it!!

I’ve got the tree up and the lights on it! The house is still a disaster, but there’s always tomorrow, right?

I saw the tasting notes on this, and it sounded so good that I had to order a sampler of it. For those who don’t know, Octavia has changed the name of this to “Chocolate Mint”.

After a mild tea spill (still had the vacuum out, so clean-up was very quick), I had a pot of this. It’s very nice: the rooibos is more of a background flavor, the peppermint is nice and strong, and the chocolate and vanilla round out the cup and make you feel like this really is an actual dessert. The taste is very similar to a York peppermint patty, or even a Thin Mint. Very, very good! I only purchased a sample, but I would definitely invest in a full tin!

Wow you put your tree up before Thanksgiving?

Jaime

I know, right? Actually, it’s the first year I’ve put a tree up since 2007 (and that year, my best friend put it up). I’m in the holiday spirit for some reason…usually I’m all bah-humbug about it all.

Cofftea

I’m in the Christmas spirit all year round but decorating pre-Thanksgiving is weird lol. I heard canned Christmas music in a store on Tues!

LiberTEAS

I am currently in the process of making ornies for an art swap that I’m in… it’s a 12 days of xmas swap. fun fun fun!

Cofftea

What’s an ornie?

LiberTEAS

ornament.

Jaime

Yay for homemade ornaments! They’re the best kind.

drank Lemongrass Oolong by Octavia Tea

I’ve had a sample of this tea for some time, but I put off trying it. Not because I didn’t think I’d like it – because I was sure that I would. But because it didn’t sound all that exciting… until I read the ingredients! Bergamot? This tea all the sudden has become VERY EXCITING!

This is one of the very best flavored Oolong teas that I’ve come across.

YUM! I really like this Oolong. The apricot flavor is a perfect flavor for Oolong, it brings out some of the natural peach-like tones of the Oolong flavor. Delicious!

The flavor is rich, smooth, and sweet.

This is really yummy. The mint does not overpower the other ingredients, there is a nice balance of chocolate, peppermint and vanilla. Nicely sweet. A really good dessert tea or just for a late-night “snack” that won’t take up residence on the hips.

It has an invigorating taste but is also quite soothing. A very nice rooibos blend that reminds me a bit of a blend that I created years ago – mint chocolate chip!

I had to try this iced before sending the rest of it away in a swap. It really does well as an iced tea. The blueberry is very present and sweet in this. Very good!

This tea brews up a deep lilac/blueberry color. The taste is amazingly blueberry without being quite tart. Their are notes of honey and soft flavorings of white tea. Mmmm…great afternoon/evening tea. Quite calming tonight.

I was quite surprised by the apricot scent of the tea. Other reviews of this tea call it floral, but the apricot description is more accurate. However, this does not come through in the flavor. It has a very smooth, mellow, darkly sweet taste. This is were the allusion to chocolate comes from. Very nice!

Wow … this is really REALLY good.

I’m on my second infusion of this now. The first infusion was very strongly flavored, but, not in a bad way… it was a beautiful fusion of flavors and texture. The buttery smoothness of the oolong and the orange flavor work so well together. The jasmine offers very little in the way of flavor but I can taste a hint of that distictive jasmine taste.

The second infusion is a bit lighter in orange flavor, which allows more of the Oolong as well as the jasmine tastes to come through. The texture is a little lighter too – it’s not quite as buttery.

I enjoyed both infusions very much.

My first cup of the day …

And this is a very nice cup with which to start! The flavor is bold and the lemon adds just enough bright flavor to really wake up the cup. The lemon doesn’t overpower, and it isn’t a sour lemon, it is a smooth, sweet kind of lemon taste that really works well with the full-bodied tea.

This is tremendously scented is beautiful orange, blossoms, and sweeter oolong and it’s a delight! The taste reminds me of Orange Fruit Loops Cereal. I had a cup HOT and a cup COLD and determined that I LOVE both!
