I was shocked I like this. The ginger isn’t annoying = but it’s a great warm spice matcha.

Aw, apparently never wrote a note for this. It is ancient, and from a teabox and stored badly… so it has very little flavor at this point. It tastes like….something. But I’m not sure that it’s belgian chocolate. It’s matcha at least! It seems like I don’t know where half my matcha is, then the other half isn’t even on my tea lists/steepster cupboard. sigh. Matcha mess. Won’t rate this.

I could kick myself.  Really kick myself.  According to an e-mail search, this was a free sample from SIX years ago.  And I never even wrote a tasting note for it.  And it’s matcha.  And it’s still very delicious.  This shop was amazing in the old days – they had SO MANY matcha flavors.  Sadly, I was only able to try a handful.  This is pure loveliness today so at least it was sitting here for six years for a reason.  I heated a mug of 2% milk for 88 seconds in the microwave and whisked some matcha in with a fork.  It doesn’t really look green.  But I think that extra percent in the milk is making it extra cheesecakey.  But now that I’m thinking about it, it’s very clumpy towards the bottom of the mug, so possibly what I’m thinking is cheesecake flavor is just plain milk flavor?  Who knows, but I won’t pour the matcha in the top of the hot milk again.  It doesn’t work that way.  Guess I haven’t had matcha in a while.  I will put the matcha in the bottom of the mug and whisk while pouring the milk next time.

drank French Vanilla Matcha by Matcha Outlet

This matcha is ok, but even though I brewed it in milk it had some bitterness to it. The base was also a bit dull. The vanilla flavour was creamy, but I wouldn’t compare it to french vanilla ice cream.

Being a matcha fan, I had to try this tea. The subtle flavour of almond was to my liking. I feel there was something missing though and it could have been better. Will be looking out for more of their blends in the future.

Second matcha of the day and I am set on the caffeine front! Much better than the Irish Cream matcha. The flavour still doesn’t punch me in the mouth, but it’s much more present than the Irish Cream was. Yummy. Gulped my matcha latte down quickly without paying too much attention as I focused on this application.

My sample comes by way of MissB in distinctive flavour strength.

I bought this because I’ve become spoiled by high-quality matcha, and drinking ceremonial grade on a daily basis gets very expensive! This hits the spot. Beautiful, bright green coloration and froths up easily. I make this as an iced latte or koicha first thing in the morning. It keeps me energized and focused through most of the day, without the jitters or crash that coffee causes. (I started drinking matcha regularly so that I could quit coffee.) The flavor is deeply vegetal, like spinach, with a smooth umami flavor and light sweetness. I’ll have to keep this in my regular rotation! It’s affordably priced for the quality, in my opinion.

drank Caramel Matcha by Matcha Outlet

So This was from this morning and I don’t remember much about it. So this will be a super short tasting note. This was a sample that I got last October during a website promotion (get a caramel matcha sample for 99 cents.) I’ve really wanted to try the flavored matcha from here. I prepared this as instructed hot with milk. It was definitely flavorful. Although the caramel flavor reminded me of coffee creamer. I think I’d enjoy the other flavors more than the caramel. So I either need to swap with someone to try some of the others or order some. I just briefly looked at my wishlist and it’s almost at 1000 teas.

Flavors: Caramel, Creamy

This is delicious and hit the spot this morning. I’m so glad I bought it, however many years ago that was.

Opened this one up this morning. Exploded it everywhere as usual while trying to pour it into the little container. My hand smelled like english toffee for a long time but since it’s a good smell, I didn’t bother to wash it off until I needed to.

Made as a hot sweetened latte and yum, this is good. It has survived the years well in my extra cold freezer and still tastes quite delicious. I am a fan.

Made with cold vanilla soy milk and some ice. It was really good with the touch of vanilla and sweetness. Very creamy, some nice strawberry flavour. Overall, I enjoyed it prepared this way.

Oh, way too bitter for my liking. I made this as a chocolate milk latte and found that it was still very bitter.I’ll have to try it plain or in baking (scones?) next.

Roswell Strange

Hooray chocolate milk latte experimentation!!!

Something I used to do a lot, but less so now just ’cause I have less time for baking, was mix matcha into plain, vanilla or sponge cake batter to flavour the cake but then also pick a complimenting flavour and do a matcha icing too. Very easy to incorporate and pairing aspect was fun :)

drank Pumpkin Pie Matcha by Matcha Outlet

I enjoyed this a lot because it has lots of flavourful spices. It is a lot like the pumpkin chai from DT. This is also a sipdown.

I can taste a slightly floral, but pleasant green tea matcha base. Cinnamon, pepper, clove, and desserty graham cracker. Overall, not something I need to drink regularly but it is a very good once-in-a-while. Drink this as a latte, it brings out the creaminess and desserty aspects of the matcha.

I’m a bit sad Matcha Outlet (formerly Red Leaf Tea) no longer has all the crazy flavored matchas (this one included) that they once had. I’d always wanted to grab this one and the lavender one and am now sad I didn’t when I had the chance. They only have a few flavored matcha listed now and none of them are terribly unique.

drank Grape Matcha by Matcha Outlet
772 tasting notes

I used more matcha this time in my sweetened matcha latte, but it’s still less grapey than I expected. The grape is present but only slightly in the sip and more in the aftertaste. It’s not bad though, but grape flavour (and this is definitely grape candy rather than grape grape) isn’t really my favourite thing. Not sure why I bought this really, except at the time I really wanted to try every single matcha flavour made by Red Leaf Tea/Matcha Outlet.

Still, I’ll up the rating a bit since I’m getting more of a handle on this one. It doesn’t really deserve a rating in the 60s from me, but not too much since I don’t actually like it terribly much. Still, I’ll drink this down without much problem, I think, and then get to move on to a new flavour! Getting a bit tired of the same 4 matcha flavours at work.

Well, this is certainly an interesting flavoured matcha. I’m not sure I like it very much but it is indeed grape flavoured. The flavour has held on fairly well considering how old it is and how long it lived in my freezer before now. Still, I’m not too sure about it but I have almost 30 g to figure it out.

Made as a hot matcha latte. A little bitter today. Mostly tastes like milk. Not really sure what I did to it to make it this bleh but I’ll try hard not to do it again.

Had this again this morning. I think I’m adjusting to the fact that I can’t identify that one flavour. It’s still tasty and very ‘tropical’ so it’s well named. I was a bit distracted while drinking it though, so I didn’t give it my full attention. Perhaps it’s less annoying that way?

Trying this again. Lower temperature, less matcha, more sweetener and it’s much better. I didn’t pick up as much of the weird unidentified fruit this time, so it was just tasty, although I was distracted while I was drinking it. Still, quite good. Bumping my rating.

Dragged this out of the freezer to add to the morning work matcha rotation. It smells…weird. I can’t quite put my finger on it. Like some sort of green unripe fruit that I can’t identify.

As for taste, I made it as a hot sweetened matcha latte and it was decent. There was still a bit of that fruit I don’t know what it is but overall it’s fairly tasty. Staying in my freezer this whole time definitely preserved the flavour pretty well, for which I’m grateful.

Green March! This is the only matcha in my collection; I ordered it from Matcha Outlet, but from what I can tell, they used to be Red Leaf Tea. I don’t have any “proper” matcha gear yet (I finally ordered some today with my b-day funds!) so I’ve just been frothing it up in my milk frother (eh, it gets the job done in a pinch). I like it latte-style, so usually I froth the matcha up in a bit of water first, move it to a mug, and then froth up the milk and add it second.

The matcha is quite thick, rich, and very grassy in flavor! I find that it has some sweeter floral notes just beneath the grassy taste, and a very subtle fruitiness, with a bit of a vegetal astringency on the finish. When prepared as a latte, the almond milk removes that astringent bite on the finish, and brings out more of the sweetness in the cup, as well as adds a lovely creaminess, and since the grassy flavor is very rich and strong, it holds up well through the almond milk.

This was a beautiful, rich creamy green cup on a rainy St. Pattie’s Day!

(For the record, this matcha also makes a delicious pumpkin spice latte during the winter months, too!)

I only have a whisk myself. Do you use an electric hand frother?

Mastress Alita

It’s an electric milk frother, but it’s stationary and has an option to heat the milk as it froths inside the canister (there is also an option to not heat as well, if you want to froth cold milk). When I use it for matcha, I typically heat the water to the temperature I want in my kettle (since the frother uses a certain temperature for milk) and just use the “cold froth” function just to mix up the matcha and water. Then I move the matcha to a mug, and then do a “warm froth” of the milk to heat and froth the milk at the same time. You can also remove the frothing coil attachment from it to just heat up milk to add to tea, or to mix up cocoas. I use it quite a bit!

drank Banana Matcha by Matcha Outlet

Banana taste was a bit mild but that might be age. I opened this one recently and it sat in my freezer for way too long, but it still quite tasty when made into a latte. Too bad I’m really limited to one of these per day if I want to sleep at night or I might go back for another one.
