442 Tasting Notes
I stopped by Simpson and Vail earlier this month on my way through Connecticut and managed to not go TOO overboard with my purchases. I did get a bunch of teas, a few author teas and the NP sampler box. This tea looks good on paper, but there is something a bit too sharp in this blend for my liking. Smoky mountains are supposed to be foggy and soft; they missed the mark in this blend. It makes me want to pare my best Lapsang with some blackberry jam toast to try and recreate the blend.
I picked up a variety box of Teeccino, and this is one I don’t mind too much. Amaretto is my favorite Teeccino flavor, and it seems a bit sweeter than this one. It has a mild chicory bite to it along with a sweetness from the dates. the maple flavor is lingering in the background, but adds a bit of sweetness to the overall taste. I might drink more of this if Amaretto isn’t available, but I wouldn’t seek it out.
Flavors: Chicory, Maple, Sweet
I forget how easy this is to brew and go, with no bitterness or excessive cinnamon. There was a box squirrled away in my cupboard that I opened to take on a road trip. I use two tea bags for a 16 oz go mug and get spicy cinnamon goodness to keep me awake. I certainly wouldn’t reach for it at other times, but for fall or winter travel, its pretty convenient.
Flavors: Cinnamon
I’m impressed with this unassuming tea that appears non-descript but brews up smooth and flavorful. There’s a roasty hay note to start and a honey finish on this first steep that disappeared quickly. The second steep was a bit weak, so I extended for another 5 minutes and that brought out the muted toasty notes and the honey finish. I’ll enjoy the rest of this small bag and will try to coax more flavor in an extra steep each time.
Flavors: Hay, Honey, Roasty, Toasty
Well it seems I am waaaay behind on reading tea notes, so I have some catching up to do! I succumbed to Maya’s 25% off iced teas to place an order of this Apricot tea as it steeps 3 times and my original bag was getting low. The tea smells wonderful and tastes like apricot with a slight bitter edge, but its one of the flavored teas that I enjoy so I ‘needed’ more. As if I need more tea!
Flavors: Apricot
Grabbed a single sachet from the TTB 2022.
This one brewed up nicely fruity and malty for an easy travel cuppa. Not astringent for a 5 minute brew in about 16 oz of water. It’s nice to be able to count on a good cup of tea in stressful travel times as I’ve been stuck in Denver for a while :(
I think you hit the nail on the head with this one saying they went for strength but it lacks some softness
Oh cool, a visit to S&V’s actual shop! Fun. Also, I have not forgotten I still owe you a tea package. I will be working on that in the next month or so!
