I agree so much with everything in Roswell Strange’s review :). I think that Lemon Smash has a nice smell and taste. It reminds me a lot of lemonheads candies, and tastes like a good lemonade. I expected this to have a huge sage flavor, because it visibly has a lot of sage in it, but I can’t taste the sage at all. It is a sweet, sunny lemon with a hint of sour lemon aftertaste. I just already own so many lemony blends from DavidsTea, and this one doesn’t stand out enough to be a bigger purchase for me.

The papaya and passionfruit flavoring made the dry mix of this smell so deliciously tropical and sweet, and I love the look of the blue cornflower. Unfortunately, once brewed up, this didn’t even taste remotely fruity to me. It was all sour, dry, tart hibiscus and rose. I like floral teas, but hibiscus is unpleasantly sour to me, and even all of the extra sugar in this couldn’t mask that tart flavor. I get that DavidsTea likes to put in hibiscus or beetroot to turn the tea pink… actually, I don’t really get it… I don’t need my tea to be pink. The hibiscus is just overwhelming to me.

This is such a lovely and forgiving tea. I’ve used entirely too hot water and I’ve forgotten about my cup and left it for too long, and it still always turns out delicious. It is fool proof and comes out with a yummy, strong, maple cream flavor every time. The taste reminds me of the maple glazed, cream filled donuts at Tim Hortons, actually. Very Canadian and very tasty. It’s one of the strongest dessert teas I own, and one that I keep repurchasing.

Maple all the things!

drank Spicy Piña Margarita by DAVIDsTEA

Sorry, Spicy Piña Margarita, but you are just foul to me. The more I tried to force myself (and everyone in my household) to finish up my 50g of this, the more I realized that I just do not like these flavors at all.

I like spicy. I like the warming bite of ginger in a lot of DavidsTeas, and I am happy to put jalapenos on almost everything in life. I get much more ginger than jalapeno in this (in fact, I wouldn’t guess there is any jalapeno in this), and much more cilantro than anything else. The cilantro has a weird, funky, dirty dish soap water taste that is horrifying. Sadly, I don’t get any mango or coconut. The pineapple is there as a vague, nondescript, fruity tone, with hints of warming ginger, and the weird burst of cilantro and hint of tomato.

It’s very much like steeping up a big cup of cilantro. I can only tolerate cilantro in small amounts in Nam Khao.

Whenever I find a tea that I don’t enjoy, my best friend is happy to finish off the tea for me (we have complete opposite taste in tea, so this system works out well for us). My BFF hated this tea as well, and then I couldn’t find anyone else willing to try it.

Cilantro tea.

This reminds me of things from the summers of my childhood. Specifically, it reminds me of watermelon flavored bubblegum and watermelon scented erasers. They had a very specific artificial-ness about them that was fun and sweet, and a sort of creamy, vanilla undertone to the fake watermelon. It’s interesting. I don’t often like fruit flavored things, and I don’t know if I want more of this, but it’s fun and has a good, strong flavor. I do have a huge stockpile of Sour Watermelon that I enjoy more, for the mix of sweet and sour.

drank Vanilla Sencha by DAVIDsTEA

Well. I ordered 100 grams of Vanilla Sencha and immediately ordered 250 grams more, after trying my first cup, if that tells you anything. I’ve now been drinking this all week and can’t get enough of it. I love Butter Sencha and Vanilla Orchid from DavidsTea, and Vanilla Sencha is basically like the perfect marriage of those two. The scent that comes off of this is strong and smells like sticking your nose into a vanilla frosted vanilla cupcake from heaven. It has a great vanilla flavor over a bed of vegetal green. It’s so rich and delicious, and I love it so much. A perfect vanilla and a perfect mix of sweet and refreshing.

drank Strawberry Lemonade by DAVIDsTEA

When I was little, my family had a huge strawberry garden that we tended to every year (and that my mum turned into the most amazing jams and lovely desserts). Taking a sip of this tea, I was flooded with good memories of those summers, searching for berries through all of their low leaves. The berry in this tea has a slight herbal tang to it that keeps it from tasting like candy, even though it is sweet. It smells very natural and true. The lemon is like a burst of lemongrass sunshine. It tastes so summery, cheerful and lovely. I almost never enjoy berry teas and went in expecting to hate this (and thinking it would be sour), but I’m very charmed by this tea.

I’m honestly not incredibly knowledgeable about teas. My experience with tea is mainly with Adagio when I am in the States and DavidsTea when I am in Canada. DavidsTea made me fall in love with tea. I was initially seduced by their cake flavored teas and then started branching out and finding more and more to love. I like all of their bright colors and seasonal mugs, and I enjoy their fun ‘flavored teas’ as much as their more traditional teas. I figure this is at least a good starting point :)
