10 Tasting Notes

I kid you not when I tell you that I have never before had such an amazing experience with Pu’er tea. I first would like to explain that Misty Peak Teas are 100% organic, no pesticides, sprays, or anything used in any way shape or form, just traditional farming styles. They are also certified fair trade and work with the family who makes the tea. All of this makes me smile as I sip my incredibly delicious cup of Pu’er knowing that not only is the tea amazing, but is also good for my health since it is organic ( Pu’er also has numerous health benefits listed on Misty Peak Teas website) and conscious knowing that the family who made the tea are treated fairly. Now on to the tea!

The taste of the tea is unlike anything that I have ever had before. Imagine the great stone fruit like qualities of a great cup of Yunnan Black teas, mixed with an Oolong like mineral water quality, combined into one and with its own unique twist with not a touch of any bitterness or astringency that you would get with an Oolong or Black tea. The smell of the dried and brewing leaves have an exact smell of dried plums/cherries and smelling the tea instantly makes my mouth water. You can literally tell that the tea is of high quality just by looking at it, long whole leaves of even length and color.

While sipping the tea I held it in my mouth and with every sip I noticed a new complex flavor that would light up my eyes. The most prominent flavors are stone fruits, dried plums, and dried cherries. They hit you instantly with a calming warm sweetness that is very comforting. The mouthfeel is incredibly smooth and leaves me wanting another sip. On later sips I noticed a mineral like flavor note that was extremely refreshing. I could not help but brew myself more. I drifted into teaphoria! The tea left me in a peaceful lucid mindset feeling ready to write music, write reviews, and simply just think about life and all the wonderful things it has to offer.

I am going to be very sad when my Pu’er from Misty Peak Teas runs out so I will be sure to keep this tea in my collection once it does! I can’t wait to share it with other tea lovers in my area. If you haven’t tried Misty Peak Teas Pu’er then you need to as it is a wonderful spiritual experience that will not be forgotten!

I originally found out about Mellow Monk Teas from the North American Tea Championships and their 2013 award for their wonderful Shaded Leaf green tea(my absolute favorite green tea). The company is absolutely amazing, all of their teas are first flush pickings(isn’t that ridiculous??!!!) and you can seriously taste that they are! All of their teas are grown in the best soil from Kumamoto Japan are small batch harvests.

After sadly finishing my last bag of Shaded Leaf I decided to try something new from Mellow Monk. The flavor notes they listed on their website for Blissful Buds was intriguing and after seeing I immediately bought it.

I received my tea and brewed up a nice cup of Blissful Buds. As I opened the bag I was hit with a sweet herbaceous smell. I put 1.5 teaspoons in my 165 degree water and brewed for exactly 1 minute and 30 seconds. The smell of the tea is light and similar to the stronger dry smell of the tea.

On the initial sip I was very pleased with the strong sweetly herbaceous taste. It is a fine green tea that pleases the taste buds! The hints of berry are definitely there but are much lighter than the herbaceous notes. The taste lingers long after the last sip with a very pleasing vegetal taste that is also very sweet. Made me want to mediate and left me in a very clear headed state!

A delicious tea indeed!! I would highly recommend this tea to someone who is already a fan of Mellow Monk teas but is craving a lightly sweet green tea. I would call Blissful Buds the younger half brother of Shaded Leaf, similar sweet berry hints, but Shaded Leaf is a lot more intense and very well rounded and extremely smooth, but also double the cost.

The first thing I have to say about this tea is whattttt thhhheee haiiiillllllll this is so goooodddd!!!! This tea is unbelievable I can’t even begin to describe it. So many complex flavors going on. The one that really stands out to me is how incredibly floral it is. On the Whispering Pines website there is a description of gardenia…. That could not be anymore accurate I seriously thought that I had accidentally poured my scented oil into my cup (oil burner sits very close to my tea cups) but I didn’t, trust me! But wait, it gets better. On the initial sip my mouth is happily greeted by a smooth mouth feel and intensely sweet honey and malty flavor. Incredible. So good that the flavor is giving me euphoria and setting off endorphins in my brain! Whispering Pines deserves a trophy for this one. Like every tea I have ever order from them is another amazingly delicious, flavorful, and high quality tea from Whispering Pines… Oh yeah, and did I mention how beautifully gold the tea is?

I think I might get addicted to Whispering Pines… All their teas look delicious. To me, this golden snail is between black and oolong, like you said very floral. Yum!

This tea is absolutely incredible, as is every other tea that I have had from Whispering Pines Tea Co.(Golden Orchid, North Winds, and Ailaoshan). I used the recommended tea brewing instructions( 1 Tablespoon, 190degree water, 2minutes) and the first thing that I noticed was the very intoxicating, sweet, caramel, toasted coconut smell. The toasted coconut note really comes out for in the smell of the tea which is the best way to describe the teas smell in my opinion. After all of that smelling my mouth was watering and yearning to taste the sweet nectar from this tea, I knew it was going to be amazing. On the first sip I immediately noticed a very very sweet taste which I have never before noticed in an oolong, much different than the sweetness from leaf hopper bitten oolongs that I know and love. This better, and a lot more intense, imagine a fruit crossed with a flower if that makes sense and you are left with a not overly strong sweet taste. Its very hard to explainable. As soon as the tea hits the tongue it can be described as very floral but then you are hit with the sweetness and once swallowed the taste of the teas sweetness lingers, leaving you wanting another sip of the tea. As of right now this is the best oolong(possibly the best tea in general) that I have ever had. It is an experience that everyone needs to try. Also to let everyone know Whispering Pines Teas are completely handcrafted by one person and the quality of everything that Brenden makes is incomparable to anything else I have tried(Verdant, Butiki, Wild Monk, many NATC winners, and numerous others) Nothing has been better than anything by Whispering Pines Tea Co.

Let me start out by saying that I have been a fan of Verdant’s black tea’s for a long time, and of course my favorite from the teas they offered was the Laoshan Black, but the Laoshan always lacked a certain something to it that I found in this tea! This tea is maltier, more chocolatey, and all around a more flavorful, full bodied tea. The smell of it when you first pour water on it smells delicious and makes my mouth water! I have been enjoying Whispering Pines tea for a couple of weeks now and both of the teas I ordered(Golden Orchid and Ailaoshan Black) are amazing and are very very flavorful.

This is quite possibly one of the tastiest teas, if not the tastiest tea I’ve ever had. The grade A Madagascar vanilla beans in the tea really help bring out and complement the malt flavor that the tea has. Drinking this morning, day, or night this tea always brings a smile to my face and is perfect for enjoying on a nice fall day outside. The tea has flavor notes that are malty, fruity, and an almost sweet vanilla that isn’t so strong that you lose the taste of the black tea, just complements it. I can’t wait to buy more!

This is my first tea from Mountain Tea and I can say that it won’t be my last! I found out about them from the amount of time they’ve won the NATC! This tea is great very floral smell to it like most Oolong’s but the taste of this tea is very sweet. Almost a black tea malt to it, but more of a light fruity taste that is sweet because of the leafhopper bitten leaves. Once swallowed the fruity taste stays on the tongue, making me appreciate the flavor even more.

This tea is amazing!!! I love how it is rolled into small pearls which makes measuring simple. To brew I used the exact instructions on Teavivre’s website 5 pearls for 8oz of water at 212 degrees for 1 minute. This brewed a great tea, not too strong not too weak, but full of flavor. The first steeping had notes of chocolate, malt, a sweetness, and a flavor that I could not exactly name, but reminded me of something that most naturally carbonated/fermented drinks give me. The second steeping was also full of flavor, though not as strong as the first. I love this tea and can’t wait for everyone to try it.

This tea made me love Oolong teas! This tea is so fruity and has a flavor that stays even after 4 or 5 steeps using the western method.

I personally use one even tablespoon and rinse for about 5 seconds. From there I steep the first brew for 25 seconds and every other steep after for 20 seconds.

Mixed with about a 1/4-1/2 of raw organic honey you cant get a better flavor.

This tea is very floral and fruity tasting.

Let me start off by saying that I have been trying a lot of different Verdant teas and I am very impressed with the low cost and high quality teas! This tea is great! I am brewing this tea the western way with 2teaspoons of tea and steeping for 2min 30sec. On early brews this tea is smooth and can be described as having a chocolate taste, and when held in the mouth a bit of a vegetable taste comes on. The taste once swallowed lingers with a sweetness that can be compared to a green bean. Later steepings bring on a more vegetable and creamy taste. I also would like to note that Verdant has great customer appreciation and every time I order from them I receive a handwritten note and other interesting facts about teas. Overall I really enjoyed this tea and I love that Verdant cares about the drinkers of their teas!
